A court placed former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on seven-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Daffodil International University student Ramij Uddin Rup in the capital`s Karwan Bazar area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuddin Hossain passed the order as police produced the former minister before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand.
A team of detective branch of police arrested Sadhan from the capital`s Bashundhara residential area on October 3.
According to the case documents, Rup, 21, was gunned down in Karwan Bazar area on August 4 as he was taking part in anti-discrimination student movement.
Rup`s father AKM Rakibul Ahammed filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against 223, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
