Former Home Minister and current BNP Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rom a house in Tongi.
Altaf was taken to the RAB headquarters for interrogation, said a media release signed by Imran Khan, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) at the media wing of the elite force on Sunday.
According to the media release, Altaf was a named accused in cases filed over vandalising chief justice’s residence, subversive activity and violence.
Details on the detention will be shared later, the release reads.
BNP leaders and activists clashed with law enforcers centering the party’s October 28 grand rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan, Kakrail and other areas.
Police Constable Aminul Islam was severely injured in the clashes and later died.
On October 29, police filed a murder case with Paltan police station, naming 64 BNP leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Mirza Fakhul, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Senior Joint Secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were shown arrested in the murder case.
