Justice Md Rezaul Hasan of the High Court Division has stepped down following allegations of corruption, misconduct and abuse of power.

His resignation letter was submitted to the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Monday and later forwarded to the president.

The move comes after a complaint was filed by KM Mojibul Haque, chairman of Shah Group, seeking an investigation into the allegations. The petition urged the Supreme Judicial Council to examine the matter and take action if the claims are proven.

According to the complaint, the judge showed bias in handling two company-related cases filed in 2010 and 2011.

In one instance, a senior lawyer’s name was reportedly included in the verdict as having argued the case, even though he was not present. That order was later cancelled by the Appellate Division.

In another case, the petitioner’s wife was not made a party, and her 1.3 million shares were cancelled, which the complainant said went against basic principles of justice.

The resignation follows growing scrutiny over the allegations, though no official findings have yet been announced.
