A court has granted a 10-day remand for Chattogram’s notorious top criminal Mobarak Hossain alias David Imon and five of his associates. They were placed on five days’ remand in a case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station and another five days in a separate case filed with Hathazari Police Station.
Chattogram Judicial Court Magistrate Md. Motasim Billah passed the order on Sunday. The matter was confirmed by Advocate Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, the state-appointed lawyer at the court.
He said the district police had sought 10 days’ remand in two separate cases filed against David Imon and his associates. After the hearing, the court granted five days’ remand in each case, totaling 10 days.
David Imon is the son of the late Md. Musa of Kanchannagar area in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram. According to police sources, he initially joined the gang of jailed criminal Sazzad Hossain. After Sazzad Hossain was arrested, David Imon took over the leadership of the group. Later, he became active as the second-in-command of the gang led by fugitive criminal Sazzad Ali, who is reportedly hiding abroad.
Police said David Imon’s name surfaced in connection with several murders in Chattogram. He faces more than one and a half dozen cases, including two double-murder cases in Bakalia and Chandgaon, the murder of Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque Chowdhury, and extortion charges.
Earlier on Wednesday, police arrested David Imon along with three of his associates while they were allegedly attempting to flee the country through the Jashore border.
