Jagannath University (JnU) has taken swift action in response to allegations of sexual assault against lecturer Abu Saheed Imon of the Film and Television Studies Department.

Following an emergency syndicate meeting on Thursday, Imon has been temporarily suspended from his position. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Junaid Halim, the department chairman, has been relieved of his duties over accusations of failing to support the victim.

Confirming the decision, acting registrar Professor Dr. Ainul Islam stated that the university syndicate reached this conclusion based on the findings of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell.

Vice-Chancellor Sadeka Halim emphasized that the decision was made after primary evidence of sexual harassment and mental distress was uncovered in the complaint filed by the victimized student against the teacher.

Moreover, discussions are ongoing regarding the temporary expulsion of individuals involved in the recent death of Obontika, a law department student. Amman Siddiqui and Assistant Proctor Deen Islam, both accused in Obontika‍‍`s case, have been subjects of deliberation among syndicate members regarding their temporary removal from the university pending investigation.
