A land dispute last night in Patuakhali`s Baufal upazila resulted in the deaths of two cousins.
Alauddin Munsi, 53, and Salim Munsi, 48, of the Atoshkhali village among the deceased.
According to the police, Salim Munshi was the vice president of the Adabaria union Jubo League in Baufal.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shonit Kumar Gain of the Baufal Police Station told the media that Alauddin`s wife Phul Banu and their 25-year-old daughter Morjina Begum were detained for their suspected roles in the event.
"We proceeded to the location and took the dead to the police station based on information. The OC stated that the remains were taken to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital on Wednesday for an autopsy.
According to the police officer, Momtaz Begum, Salim`s wife, and Phul Banu filed two distinct murder complaints in relation to the death of their husbands.
The OC quoted residents to claim that Alauddin and his cousin Salim had a protracted land dispute.
OC added, Alauddin and his two boys attacked Salim around 10:00 p.m. yesterday. Salim sought refuge in the home of his neighbor Samsu Munsi in order to defend himself, but assailants fatally stabbed him there.
OC also said, Alauddin was later killed by beatings by Salim`s men.
He also said that Alauddin`s wife and daughter would be brought before the court following the interrogation.
