At least four people have been confirmed dead following violent clashes surrounding the National Citizen Party (NCP)’s rally in Gopalganj on Wednesday.
Authorities at the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital confirmed receiving the bodies, all bearing visible signs of trauma.
Dr. Jibitesh Biswas, the hospital’s superintendent, said around 6:45 pm that the hospital had received four bodies so far. He noted that the victims showed signs of physical injuries consistent with violent confrontation.
While the number of injured remains unclear, hospital sources confirmed that many wounded individuals sought medical attention throughout the afternoon and evening.
Some of them are reportedly in critical condition, with several undergoing emergency treatment for gunshot wounds.
The violence erupted shortly after the conclusion of the NCP’s rally at the municipal park in Gopalganj, where clashes broke out between supporters of the banned Awami League and NCP activists.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos, with security forces firing sound grenades and blank rounds in an effort to control the situation.
Earlier reports confirmed two fatalities, including Dipto Saha (25) from Udayan Road and Romzan Kazi (18) from Kotalipara.
With the latest update from hospital authorities, the death toll now stands at four. The identity of the additional two deceased is yet to be officially confirmed.
