Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman in a village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district.
The main accused, identified as Fazor Ali, was apprehended early Sunday morning from the Saydabad area of Dhaka, while four others were arrested for allegedly filming and spreading a video of the incident.
According to the police, the woman filed a case on Friday afternoon with Muradnagar Police Station, detailing that the incident took place late Thursday night.
Around 10 PM, Fazor Ali reportedly arrived at her father’s residence, where she had been staying with her children for the past two weeks. When she refused to open the door, he allegedly broke it down and assaulted her.
A neighbor reported hearing loud noises that night and rushed to call others for help. When they entered the house, they found the door broken and the woman in distress.
According to witnesses, some individuals physically assaulted the woman and recorded videos of the incident.
It was only later that they realized she had been subjected to abuse. Residents then beat Fazor Ali and took him to a hospital, from where he later fled.
The case drew public attention after a video of the incident surfaced on Facebook Saturday night, prompting outrage and condemnation.
Police acted swiftly following the victim`s complaint. The arrested individuals, all residents of Muradnagar, have been identified as Md. Suman, Ramzan Ali, Md. Arif, and Md. Onik.
Authorities confirmed that the survivor has undergone a medical examination as part of the investigation. The case is currently under active investigation.
