State Minister for Shipping and Awami League Organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, “After the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, the conspirators are now planning political murders instead of physical murders.”
He said this as the Chief Guest speech at a discussion meeting on August 15 National Mourning Day: "Mourning to Power" on the occasion of National Mourning Day 2023 at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) building in Motijheel in the capital today. This was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Shipping sent to the media.
State Minister said, "Bangladesh became independent because there was a bold visionary and patriotic leadership like Bangabandhu. This is our luck. We are indebted to Bangabandhu. We cannot repay his debt. But, we can pay tribute to him through our work."
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, "Bangabandhu`s murder was a brutal murder. This was the worst murder in the history of the world. There have been murders in the countries of the world, but there has been no such heinous murder as his murder. A smear campaign was launched against Bangabandhu`s family to justify his assassination. Those have been proven false. Murders as big as Bangabandhu`s will not be prosecuted - the murderous gangs added it to the constitution."
At the beginning of the discussion meeting, a minute of silence was observed to pay respect to all martyrs on August 15. Later prayers were offered for the martyrs. The state minister earlier paid floral tributes to Bangabandhu`s portrait at the BIWTA building. Among others, the secretary of the ministry, the chairman of BIWTA and the director general of the directorate of shipping were present.
The Minister of State for Shipping later distributed food among sailors and wharf workers during a doa mahfil organized by BIWTA on the occasion of National Mourning Day 2023 at the capital`s Sadarghat Terminal.
