Dhaka-Ctg highway traffic halted for an hour due to ruling party factional clash

In Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla, a confrontation between two Awami League factions has broken out on Tuesday (June 6) at around 8 a.m., which left the traffic halted on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

There was a fight between the followers and activists of Md Mazibul Hoque, the MP for Cumilla-11, Md Mizanur Rahman, the former mayor of Chauddagram, and Shahjalal Majumder, the chairman of Sreepur Union Parishad.

Chauddagram police station Officer-in-Charge Shuvo Ranjan Chakma said that the clash ensued between the supporters of former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque and former municipal mayor Mizanur Rahman when the two groups tried to bring out protest procession and hold meeting at the same time on Monday morning over the death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leaving at least 30 people injured.  

Locals claim that the situation has not yet been brought under control as of the time this story was filed at 11:20am.

The clash has led to the suspension of traffic movement and created severe traffic gridlock for at least 10 kilometre.
