Various parts of the country including the capital Dhaka were shaken by the earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was at Silchar, 13 km from Sylhet. Initially, no damage was reported in the earthquake.
The earthquake was felt at 10:46 am today.
Director of Meteorological Department Md. Azizur Rahman said the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.5 on the Richter scale.
Confirming the earthquake, Sanjay Biswas, the officer in charge of the Earthquake Observatory and Research Center of the Meteorological Department, said that the earthquake was felt at 10:46:15.
Bangladesh and its surrounding areas have recorded 54-55 minor and moderate earthquakes in the last five years. There was an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 in the morning on May, 5. Its origin was 14 km east-south-east of Dhaka`s Doha.
