Explosion at cylinder depot leaves 10 burned in Chattogram

At least 10 people sustained burns after an explosion at a gas cylinder warehouse in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday morning.

The blast occurred around 6:50 am at Mahbub Rahman Traders, a cylinder sales warehouse in Bailtoli Yunus Market area, according to the Fire Service.

Officials at the Agrabad Fire Service Control Room said the explosion triggered a fire that left several people injured. Firefighters from the Chandanaish Fire Station managed to bring the blaze under control around 9 am.

Locals said the explosion took place while workers were unloading gas cylinders from a truck. The fire spread rapidly inside the warehouse, causing several cylinders to explode and fly in different directions.

Mohammad Alauddin, sub-inspector at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, said 10 burn victims were brought to the hospital around 8:15 am and admitted to the burn unit.

The injured were identified as Mahbubur Rahman (45), owner of the shop, Saurav Rahman (25), Md Kapil (22), Md Riaz (17), Md Yunus (26), Md Akib (17), Md Harun (29), Md Idris (30), Md Liton (28) and Md Saleh (33).

Doctors at CMCH said the victims sustained burns on 20% to 70% of their bodies.
