Factional clashes, chase-counter chase during 21 Feb celebration

The celebration of 21 February, the International Mother Language and Martyrs Day has been stigmatised by the conflict of supremacy of various quarters across the country.

Activists of Awami League and BNP locked into clashes centering a procession of International Mother Language Day and placing wreaths at Shahid Minar in Raipur of Lakshmipur leaving at least 20 people of both sides injured. Of them, 13 injured were given medical treatment at upazila health complex.

The incident occurred on the main road in front of Upazila Parishad bungalow between 9am and 11am on Monday. A tense situation has been prevailing in the area since the conflict took place.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Raipura police station said, “The clash broke out between activists of Awami League and BNP centering a procession and placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar. Police are vigilant to keep the situation in control. Legal steps are underway.”

Meanwhile, factions of the ruling party locked into another altercation in Pakundia of Kishoreganj. At least 10 people sustained injuries during the clash.

The incident occurred at Pakundia Government College premises on Monday. Pakundia-Katiadi constituency former lawmaker and upazila Awami League convener advocate Sohraf Uddin said, accompanied by leaders and activists he went to pay tribute at the college Shaheed Minar around 10 am this morning. All of a sudden, the supporters of running MP Nur Mohammed carried out the attack on them.
