Father sentenced to death on daughter's witness

Four years ago, the then five-year-old Faiza saw her mother was killed by her father. Now her father Monir Ali was sentenced to death on the witness of the child.

Sylhet speedy trial tribunal judge Shahadat Hossain Pramanik announced this verdict on Wednesday. In addition, the court fined Monir Tk 20,000 in this incident.

Monir was a resident of Adityapur village of South Surma Upazila of Sylhet, Special Public Prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal Sarwar Ahmed Chowdhury Abdal confirmed the matter to the media.

He said, "Out of 12 witnesses in the case, 11 have testified. Shahana's daughter Faiza testified as the only eye witness. After a long hearing, the court sentenced the accused to death."

According to the source of the case, Monir hacked his wife Sahana Akhter to death on June 5, 2017 at the house of his in-laws which was witnessed by her daughter. In 2022, the child testified against his father in court.
