An application has been filed seeking bail of Daily Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman, who was detained in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at the capital's Ramna Model Police Station. A hearing will be held in this regard at noon.
His lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmkar applied for bail in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Monday (April, 3).
On March 30, Shamsuzzaman was brought to court and appealed to be detained in jail by Abu Ansar, the investigating officer of the case and Inspector of Ramna Model Police Station. At this time, his lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for bail on behalf of the accused.
On the other hand, the prosecutor opposed the bail. After hearing both the parties, the court denied him bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
The police announced a case under the Digital Security Act against Shams after he was 'picked up' at midnight of last Wednesday.
Later on the same day a Jubo League leader named , Syed Md. Golam Kibria (36) filed a case against Shamsuzzaman under the Digital Security Act.
