Journalist Shamsuzzaman's bail granted

Daily Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman has been granted bail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at Ramna Model Police Station in the capital.

On Monday (April 3), his lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for bail in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Noor passed the bail after the hearing in the afternoon.

On Wednesday midnight, another case was filed under the Digital Security Act. Apart from Shamsuzzaman Shams, the reporter of Prothom Alo, an associate camera person, and unidentified persons involved in the publication of the report were accused by Supreme Court Lawyer Abdul Malek in the Ramna Thana. 

After appearing in court on Thursday morning, Shamsuzzaman was denied bail in the related case of Ramna police station and was sentenced to jail by the order of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Tofazzal Hossain of the Dhaka CMM Court. Shamsuzzaman was in jail since then.

On March 30, Shamsuzzaman was brought to court and appealed to be detained in jail by Abu Ansar, the investigating officer of the case and Inspector of Ramna Model Police Station. At this time, his lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for bail on behalf of the accused.
