A Jubo Dal activist named Md Selim, 40, was gunned down in broad daylight on Sunday in the Ishaan Bhatter Hat area of Kodalpur Union under Raozan upazila in Chattogram.

Selim, a resident of Shamsher Para in Ward 7 of Kodalpur, was reportedly on his way to buy medicine with his wife Ferdous Akter and their daughter, after attending a relative’s funeral prayer.

He was travelling on a motorcycle when a group of 4–5 assailants arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and opened fire.

According to witnesses, two of the attackers were disguised in burqas. A bullet struck Selim in the head, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rushed him to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Ferdous Akter, who was present at the scene, stated that she and her daughter fell off the motorcycle during the attack.

She identified one of the attackers as Ilyas and said she would be able to recognize the others if she saw them again.

Locals suspect the shooting may be linked to rivalry over political dominance in the area, as Selim was involved with the opposition-aligned Jubo Dal.

Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that Selim’s body will be sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Police have launched an investigation into the murder.
