Champa Chakma (28), assistant manager of Rangunia branch of non-governmental human development organization Kaksi, was killed by a borrower of the NGO in a public stabbing in Rangunia, Chittagong. The police said that the person named Enamul Haque committed the incident due to a dispute over debt repayment.
Police said that the incident took place in Dhamairhat area of the upazila on Sunday (March 6) night.
It is known that Enamul of North Parua village of the upazila took a loan of Tk 1 lakh in the name of his sister from the NGO. This loan was supposed to be repaid in installments of 10,000 taka per month.
Champa Chakma had a discussion with Enamul as he could not pay the installments on the due date on February 28. The police said that this murder was organized due to this.
Mahbub Milki, OC of Rangunia Police Station, told the media that Enamul was standing under the NGO office with a knife around 8:30 pm on Sunday. When Champa returned home after finishing her office work, Enamul got into a dispute with her again. At one point, Enamul hit Champa on the throat with the knife he was carrying. Colleagues and locals took Champa Chakma to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.
The OC also said that when the witnesses chased Enamul, he ran away. The police are conducting an operation to catch him.
