No one can be Election observer without experience and registration: EC

Amending the policy for international election observers, the Election Commission (EC) has said that any foreign national or organization wishing to observe the elections in Bangladesh must have experience in working with good governance, elections, democracy, peacekeeping and human rights.

The revised policy was issued by the EC on Tuesday.

The policy also states that in case of international observer organization, the organization should be registered with the authorities of the respective country. Election Commissioner Md. Anisur Rahman recently said that the 12th National Parliament Election will be held in the first week of January next year.

The EC has already registered 66 domestic organizations as observer organizations ahead of the upcoming national elections. More than 150 other indigenous non-governmental organizations are said to have applied to the EC for registration as election observers.
