Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday paid a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO).
He visited the organization’s head office in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon in the capital on Sunday morning. The visit was not part of his previously scheduled programme.
During the visit, the Prime Minister toured various departments of the agency under the Ministry of Defence. He spoke with officials and staff members and inquired about the progress of their work.
SPARRSO Chairman Md. Rashidul Islam briefed the Prime Minister on the organization’s ongoing activities, research initiatives, and future plans. Officials from different departments also presented their innovations, research work, and technological capabilities.
At the end of the visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized transforming SPARRSO into a modern, advanced, and self-reliant institution. He also instructed the relevant authorities to strengthen SPARRSO as a robust space research organization capable of contributing effectively to national security, technological advancement, and national development.
The Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd.) Dr. A K M Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Private Secretary-2 Md. Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Jahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and SPARRSO were present.
SPARRSO is the national institution responsible for research, development, and application of space science, satellite technology, and remote sensing technology in the country.
