Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged students to prepare themselves from now on to help build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, saying the current generation is the country`s future.
He made the call on Sunday while addressing students, teachers and visitors from various educational institutions who were visiting the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The visitors later attended a special luncheon hosted by the prime minister at the Parliament`s VIP cafeteria. Besides sharing a meal with them, he interacted with the students, inquired about their studies and advised them to participate in sports and extracurricular activities alongside academics to develop themselves into capable, skilled and responsible citizens.
The current generation is the future of the country. Therefore, students must prepare themselves from now on to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, the prime minister said.
Representatives from several educational institutions attended the luncheon, including 29 law students from Canadian University of Bangladesh, 21 underprivileged students and teachers brought through Surabhi, a partner organisation of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), and 16 students and teachers from the Tejgaon College Debating Society.
As part of their visit to the Parliament complex, the participants gained firsthand knowledge of the institutional functions of the Parliament Secretariat. They also toured the parliamentary library, took part in a photo session at the North Plaza and observed parliamentary proceedings from inside the main chamber.
Students and teachers expressed their enthusiasm at having the opportunity to witness a parliamentary session and attend the event at the prime minister`s invitation. They also thanked him for his warm hospitality and valuable guidance.
