Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has warned of vote rigging in the elections to be held on January 7. Even if there is an attempt at vote rigging, polling will be declared closed immediately.
He said this in an exchange meeting with the candidates at Barisal District Commissioner office today.
Kazi Habibul Awal sought cooperation from the candidates to make the election a fair contest.
"Follow electoral code strictly. Help us. And please come out of the notion that power-play is a must to win elections. … We don`t believe it, and you certainly shouldn`t," the CEC told the candidates warning them against any kind of irregularities.
"We want to ensure a free, fair and neutral election and won`t spare anyone if they try to obstruct it," the CEC added.
"You have to trust the system; Voters should be allowed to vote freely."
He said, "There has been a debate about the vote due to various reasons. Different countries have talked about our country. Foreigners have a demand for free, fair and impartial voting. I want to make the national election successful with the help of the candidates."
