Centering supremacy establishment, a Rohingya man was killed in a shootout between two factions of a Rohingya camp in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district On Wednesday morning.
However, the local Bangladeshi administration members were still in the dark about the real incident because they claimed it occurred in no-man's-land and the area was not within their jurisdiction.
According to Naikhongchhari upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Romen Sharma, he learned that an incident of firing between ARSA and RSO in no-man's-land area resulted in one death and one injury. However, he could not confirm any other development.
Naikhongchhari police station officer-in-charge (investigation) Md Sahjahan told thereport.live over phone that he also listened to the incident.
“There is nothing to say as the incident has taken place in Myanmar-side. We have heard that bullets were fired, establishment set on fire and one person died, likewise you learnt. But we can not provide authentic information on this,” Sahjahan added.
According to Rohingyas living at the camp, the firing took place between two armed groups of Myanmar: Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) alongside the zero line of Tumbru border under 2 No. ward of Ghumdhum union in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.
Dil Mohammad, a Rohingya community leader living in the camp, stated, "It is assumed that the clash between the armed groups occurred in order to establish supremacy."
The deceased was identified as Hamid Ullah, 27, and the injured was identified as Muhib Ullah, 25.
According to media reports, Additional DIG Syed Harun chief of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) 14 -- based in Cox’s Bazar -- said after the shooting at the zero line, two persons were transported to MSF hospital with bullet wounds.
He went on saying that one of them died and the other was taken to the Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital.
Cox’s Bazar is only 23 kilometres away from Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari upazila.
