The Rajshahi University (RU) Syndicate on Sunday upheld the vice chancellor’s decision to suspend the controversial dependent quota.
The decision came during an emergency meeting convened in response to recent tensions on campus over the quota issue.
Acting Registrar Professor Iftikharul Alam Masud told reporters after the meeting that the Syndicate also decided to form two separate committees to investigate recent untoward incidents between students and university staff.
One committee will conduct an internal inquiry, while the other will be a judicial probe committee.
The meeting, which began at the vice chancellor’s residence around 3:30 pm and ended at 5 pm, also condemned the harassment of the pro-vice chancellor and other faculty members during the unrest.
Regarding the RUCSU (Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union) election, the Syndicate said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the election commission.
Earlier, amid mounting student protests, the university authorities suspended the decision to reinstate the dependent quota. The suspension was announced early Saturday on the university’s official Facebook page.
