A 4.5-caliber sniper rifle was recovered during a midnight army operation in the Purulia area of Kalia Upazila, Narail. The raid, which took place on Sunday night, did not result in any arrests.
According to a statement issued by the Narail army camp on Monday morning, the operation was launched following intelligence that a local individual named Sohan Molla had been using an illegal sniper rifle to intimidate residents in the area.
Acting on this information, army personnel conducted a raid on Sohan’s residence late Sunday night.
During the search, they discovered a 4.5-caliber Nitro sniper rifle equipped with a telescopic sight and silencer hidden under his bed. However, Sohan was not present at the time, and authorities were unable to detain him.
Later in the afternoon, Kalia Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the seized weapon had been handed over to the local police by the army.
He stated that further legal action would be taken following necessary examinations of the weapon, pending court approval.
