Three more people have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Hospital as a fire broke out in a 12-storey residential building at Gulshan-2 in the capital on Sunday. However, the fire was brought under control around 11pm.
The two injured are Mosha Sikder, 33, and Roshan Ali, 35 and Saima Rahman Sinha, 37. According to doctors they are under close observation.
One person has died on Sunday evening as he tried to escape the blaze by jumping off from the building. The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
"The fire broke out on the seventh floor of a 12-storey building in Gulshan-2 at 6:59pm. However, the reasons for the fire mishap and the extent of damage could not immediately be confirmed," Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell, said.
In the visuals emerging from the site, huge flames coupled with thick clouds of black smoke were seen billowing out of the building.
On information, 19 firefighting units responded to the blaze, and the responders are trying to tame the flames, Anwarul said.
Over 20 people were rescued alive from the building, fire service official said in a briefing.
