Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayeedi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of crimes against humanity, has passed away. He died of a heart attack on Monday (14 August) night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSSMU) in the capital.
Professor and Divisional head Dr. Chowdhury Mishkat Hossain confirmed this to The Report.Live.
He was taken by ambulance from Kashimpur Jail to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur when he fell ill with chest pain yesterday afternoon. He was later referred to BSSMU for advanced treatment.
According to prison authority sources, Delawar Hossain Sayeedi was imprisoned in Kashimpur Central Jail Part-1 of Gazipur for a long time after receiving life imprisonment for crimes against humanity in 1971. There he suddenly fell ill around 5pm on Sunday. At that time, he was feeling pain in his chest. After that he was taken to the hospital.
On February 17, 2018, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court sentenced Delawar Hossain Sayeedi to life imprisonment for crimes against humanity.
