A man has confessed to smothering his mother-in-law and two brothers-in-law to death in the Dhamrai area of Savar, allegedly due to resentment over the sale of a family-owned decoration business. The incident occurred on the night of June 1, with the accused arrested two days later.
According to investigators, the suspect had been managing the business after the death of his father-in-law. However, as the business failed to generate profit, the mother-in-law sold it two months ago for 170,000 BDT.
This decision reportedly infuriated the accused, who received a mobile phone worth 20,000 BDT from the proceeds, while his wife was given a sewing machine. The remaining amount was kept in the household.
On the day of the murders, the accused and his wife visited her family but returned home together in the evening. Investigators believe he later returned alone, possibly after sedating the victims during dinner.
In the middle of the night, he re-entered the house and allegedly suffocated each victim — the mother-in-law, the elder brother-in-law (aged 16), and the younger brother-in-law (aged 6) — by kneeling on their chests and pressing pillows to their faces.
The next day, the wife attempted to contact her family multiple times. When there was no response, she visited and discovered the bodies covered with blankets.
The accused, reportedly motivated by both financial frustration and personal grievances, has been presented before the court and is expected to deliver a confession under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
