No alternative of Sheikh Hasina in protecting religious harmony: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said that Bangladesh doesn't have any alternative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in protecting religious harmony and controlling vested quarters.

He came up with the remarks while attending a programme on the eve of Buddha Purnima on Saturday.

Praising Sheikh Hasina as a symbol of secularism, the minister said:" She is not only the symbol of the spirit of our Liberation War and the torchbearer of democracy and development, she is also a symbol of secularism as she has already cleared in her recent speech that religious values should not down our cultural norms."

"In Saudi Arabia, Muslims make uludhoni which is the part of their culture. But, if we do it in Bangladesh, a quarter would say all become Hindus," he added.

Noting that the vested quarter has tried to turn Bangladesh into a communal country after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, he further said: "Bangabandhu created a secular state by liberating us from Pakistan in 1971. His daughter Sheikh Hasina brought back the same spirit in 1996 after she took the power."

"There is no alternative of Sheikh Hasina in preventing those who are trying to destroy the religious harmony in Bangladesh by hatching conspiracy," added the minister.

He said that Bangladesh became a country of festival as people of all religion belief can celebrate their religious occasions here peacefully. "But, a quarter is always trying to destroy the harmony. So, we must be united under the leadership of Hasina in order to prevent the quarter hampering our peace and unity."
