He made the announcement at a press conference held today (Tuesday) at the Department of Information’s (PID) conference room in the Secretariat. He said these 10 districts from the greater Dhaka region and southern parts of the country are being newly connected to the rail network.

The Ministry of Railways stated that the districts being brought under rail connectivity are Sherpur, Meherpur, Magura, Satkhira, Barishal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, and Lakshmipur.

The minister said, A meeting was held today under the initiative and chairmanship of the Prime Minister, where the latest activities of the Railway Ministry, the overall connectivity situation, service standards, ongoing projects, and future plans were reviewed. The Prime Minister was informed, observed the progress, understood the issues, and also provided her feedback. Based on this overall review of connectivity and service quality, several important decisions were made.

At the same time, an Inland Container Depot (ICD) project in Dhirasram has already been approved. Additionally, on the Dhaka–Chattogram route, some sections are being upgraded, with a mix of meter gauge and broad gauge lines.
