The Odyssey IMAX screenings sell out fast in India ahead of release

Advance bookings for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey are off to a remarkable start in India, with premium IMAX seats disappearing within days of ticket sales opening.

The film, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, has generated massive excitement among moviegoers, prompting strong early demand across major cities including Mumbai and Delhi. Despite ticket prices reaching as high as ₹3,300 for select screenings, many of the best seats have already been snapped up weeks before opening day.

Several premium IMAX venues reported near sell-outs for the opening weekend, particularly for recliner and luxury seating categories. In Mumbai, high-end cinemas have seen rapid bookings, while theatres across Delhi-NCR are also witnessing strong demand for premium-format shows.

Industry observers say the enthusiasm reflects both Nolan’s popularity and the unique scale of the project. The Odyssey has attracted global attention as the first feature film to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras, a filmmaking achievement that has become a major selling point among cinema enthusiasts.

Reports from exhibitors indicate that even some front-row seats are selling quickly, highlighting the film’s strong box-office potential in one of the world‍‍`s largest movie markets.

India became one of the earliest international markets to launch advance ticket sales when bookings opened on June 8, more than a month before the film’s release.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery India, the project represents a significant milestone in cinematic technology and storytelling. The studio noted that Nolan had spent years pursuing the goal of creating a feature filmed completely with IMAX cameras.

Written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey adapts Homer’s legendary Greek epic. The story follows Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he faces a perilous journey home after the Trojan War.

The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong‍‍`o, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.

With advance sales already surging, exhibitors are expecting The Odyssey to be one of the biggest global cinema events of the year when it arrives in theatres on July 17.
