As the FIFA World Cup fever grips Bangladesh along with the rest of the world, football discussions have taken over everywhere. Debates over which team individuals support have become endless.

Meanwhile, it has reportedly been revealed which team the Prime Minister supports.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Prime Minister held a meeting with journalists at the China–Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in the capital. During the interaction, senior journalist Sumon Mahmud asked the Prime Minister which team he supports, saying that everyone was eager to know.

In response, the Prime Minister said, “I have lived in a country for a long time. You can guess which team I support.”

Tarique Rahman, who reportedly went into exile in the United Kingdom after being released on parole from jail on 11 September 2008 amid alleged persecution, was unable to return to the country during the previous Awami League government. He is said to have returned home after 17 years on 25 December 2025.

Based on this implication, it is understood that the Prime Minister is a supporter of England in the World Cup.
