The Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj counted a staggering Tk 8 crore 21 lakh 34 thousand and 304 from its donation boxes on Saturday.

Fouzia Khan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishoreganj and President of the Pagla Mosque Management Committee, confirmed the collection after the counting process concluded.

The funds were retrieved from 11 donation boxes that yielded 29 sacks of cash, along with foreign currency and gold ornaments. The mammoth task of counting was undertaken by approximately 400 volunteers under supervision, including that of DC Fouzia Khan and Superintendent of Police Hasan Chowdhury.

The Pagla Mosque has seen consistent generosity from worshippers. On August 17, the donation boxes collected Tk 7 crore 22 lakh 13 thousand and 46, highlighting the enduring trust and faith people place in the institution.

DC Fouzia Khan noted that the funds are utilized for the maintenance of the mosque and a wide range of charitable initiatives. The money supports mosques, madrasas, orphanages, and various social welfare programs in the district, she said, emphasizing the community-focused mission of the donations.

The Pagla Mosque, believed to have been constructed over 500 years ago, carries deep historical and cultural significance. According to local history, it was built during the era of Dewan Jilkadar Khan, a devoted follower of the famous zamindar Isa Khan. The mosque’s name, "Pagla," derives from Jilkadar Khan’s reputation for intense devotion and riverside prayers, which endeared him to the community.
