The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin has expressed his commitment to ensuring full implementation of the rule of law in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
Speaking at a workshop for polling officials, he emphasized the need for a smooth, fair, and transparent election, despite various challenges.
“The aim is to empower presiding officers, polling officers, and returning officers with full authority,” the CEC said. “Through this election, we want to set an example of what the rule of law truly means.”
The workshop, held on Saturday at the Regional Public Administration Training Centre in Chattogram, focused on identifying and overcoming challenges faced by election officials during polling.
Addressing the polling officials, the CEC said, “We are entrusting you with full powers. If you fail to use these powers properly, it will be considered an offense. Proper exercise of authority is as important as having it. As long as you act within the law, the Election Commission will provide full support.”
He further highlighted that while administrative, legal, and technological challenges exist in conducting elections, security management remains the biggest challenge. “Coordination among the administration and law enforcement agencies is crucial,” he said. The CEC also noted that the Election Commission has set up a special cell to counter misinformation and AI-based disinformation on social media.
The workshop was chaired by Senior District Election Officer Muhammad Bashir Ahmed, and special guests included Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sorkar, Additional Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat K. M. Ali Nowaz, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ziauddin, DIG of Chattogram Range Police Mohammad Ahsan Habib Palash, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative Anwarul Haq, and CBTEP Project Director Mohammad Mostafa Hasan.
