After meeting the chief adviser of the interim government, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said they gave the Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government the necessary time to ensure a conducive atmosphere for a fair national election.
“We have given this interim government the time required to create proper environment for holding an election,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said this while talking to reporters after a meeting between the Chief Adviser and senior BNP leaders at the State Guest House, Jamuna, in the capital on Monday.
It was the first formal meeting between the head of Dr Yunus aNnd BNP leaders since the government’s formation on August 8.
The BNP leader, however, said they did not discuss the issue of the election at the meeting attended by BNP standing committee members Khandker Mosharref Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman and Jamiruddin Sircar.
They earlier said it will take time to create proper environment for the election. “We’ve given them the time,” he said, adding that BNP did not mention any specific timeframe for the arrangement of the next generation election.
