Jamaat activists clash with cops in Mouchak

Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami have been locked into a clash with police members at the capital’s Mouchak area.

The incident took place after Jamaat people brought a procession in the area after Juma prayer on Friday.

Onlookers said, police blocked the procession when it reached Mouchak intersection. Police also threw tear shell to disperse them. Later, the Jamaat men moved towards Malibagh. They later took position at different spots in the area. The situation brought under control after additional police were deployed there.

AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said, “Jamaat was allowed to bring a mass procession. They could not come out with a procession. We will keep monitoring continue in this regard. Every step necessary is being taken by police or other law enforcement agencies for holding any kind of peaceful mass rally or procession. But we are alert if any quarters try to create chaos or any unwanted incident in name of mass procession.
