Mahfuz Alam questions whether Bangladesh has the strength to build a better future

Mahfuz Alam, an advisor in Bangladesh‍‍`s interim government without a specific ministry, posted a powerful message on his verified Facebook account late Wednesday night.

In the post titled "Do We Have the Strength to Build?", he raised serious questions about the country‍‍`s future and its ability to resist global and regional powers.

He wrote, "We are facing regional and global imperialism, not just a few statues or buildings."

His post came just hours after the demolition of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 32 Dhanmondi had begun, sparking much discussion and concern.

Mahfuz Alam pointed out that instead of focusing on destroying idols or symbols, the country should turn its attention to creating new ideas, building strength, and challenging the forces that threaten it.

He stressed,

"Rather than breaking idols, we should focus on developing counter-ideas, strength, and hegemony to challenge our enemies. We should move away from destruction projects and gradually take up building initiatives instead."

He went on to criticize the ruling political powers, saying,

"Neither the League nor Hasina holds any real power in this context. They are merely extensions of regional imperialism. And regional imperialism is cementing its control by creating a practical vision for the state, fostering skilled human resources in both the country and the diaspora, and fortifying state institutions. Our own counter-hegemony relies on these three pillars."

The advisor called for urgent action, stating,

"The opportunity to build arises after destruction, but continuous destruction projects do not bode well for our future. We must swiftly begin and implement building projects. I urge you all to become active participants in this constructive effort."

Mahfuz Alam also assured the public that the interim government was moving forward with important reforms, saying that proposals from the government commission would soon be implemented.

He added,

"The rehabilitation of the wounded and deceased, as well as the ongoing trial for the July genocide, will continue. These tasks will gain significant momentum this month."

He went on to explain that ending the current fascist system was about more than just tearing things down—it was also about creating alternatives for the future.

"In the new system, we must focus more on constructing rather than destroying," he said.

Addressing the situation involving political unrest, Mahfuz Alam said,

"The spread of killer Hasina‍‍`s rhetoric and the resulting political instability will be attributed to regional imperialism. This is why it is crucial for us to cultivate creative power and take a visionary approach to combating this imperialism, rather than simply reacting to it, because this battle is just beginning."

In the closing part of his post, Mahfuz Alam encouraged the people to look ahead and make the most of the current opportunity.

"History has given us this chance. Now, we must win, and the only way to win is by building a state model, strengthening our institutions, and developing a skilled, respected workforce," he said.

He ended his message by praying for Allah to grant everyone "foresight" or "vision."
