Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the Sheikh Hasina-led government had shown the World Bank that “Yes, we can” by building the Padma Bridge with state funds, and she once again proved it by inaugurating the metro rail.
“How could we not? We are a nation of heroes. The World Bank can level accusations, and they did. I want to say, we are a nation of heroes, not a nation of thieves,” he said.
He was giving a speech at the much-awaited plaque unveiling ceremony of the country's first metro rail on Wednesday afternoon.
The minister said: “Today is a happy day for the people of Bangladesh. It is the day of fulfiling the long-cherished dream of the residents of the capital.”
“By inaugurating the metro rail, another golden feather has added to the cap of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government,” he said adding: “Sheikh Hasina's achievement, the addition of metro rail to public transport, is visible today.”
Pointing to the BNP, Obaidul Quader said many are now jealous of the achievement of this government. “They are saying Sheikh Hasina clumsily completed the Padma Bridge. How is that true? You went to Khulna to attend your rally in three hours. Could you ever do that in your life? ”
The Awami League general secretary said the party is ready to face everything.
