Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the Awami League, stated that the government will retaliate against anyone who attempts to hinder the next national election because they want it to be free and fair.
He came up with this remark on Thursday morning after Awami League men led by him paid tribute at the tomb of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the occasion of his 124th birthday.
The government would offer the Election Commission all possible assistance in putting together free and fair elections, said Obaidul Quader, who is also the minister of roads, transport and bridges.
He also said that those who set fire to buses and vandalized buses in the name of agitation were involved in political violence. They will have to pay for it.
