Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, has been admitted to The London Clinic in the UK for advanced medical care.
It has been reported that her treatment has begun under the supervision of specialist doctor Patrick Kennedy.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain provided this information to the media, with confirmation from BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing member Shairul Kabir Khan.
Begum Khaleda Zia is currently dealing with multiple health issues, including liver cirrhosis, heart disease, lung complications, arthritis, kidney problems, and diabetes.
According to the information available on The London Clinic’s website, Professor Patrick Kennedy is a highly respected liver specialist.
He is known worldwide for his work on liver diseases caused by viruses. After receiving training at University College Dublin, he completed his postgraduate studies in London.
In 2009, he joined Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry as a senior lecturer.
Professor Kennedy has carried out extensive research on Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB).
His primary research goal has been to develop special treatments for liver diseases caused by viruses.
He has published over 200 research papers, written more than 90 peer-reviewed articles, and authored several books.
He has also edited a book on Hepatogastroenterology.
In addition to his clinical work, Professor Kennedy is an expert advisor for the World Health Organization (WHO) and serves on the editorial board of the HPV Clinical Guideline.
He has also been a member of the HBV Clinical Practice Guideline Committee for the European Association for the Study of the Liver.
As part of his role with the United Kingdom Advisory Panel (UKAP), Professor Kennedy provides expert opinions on viral blood diseases.
He currently holds the position of Chairman of the British Viral Hepatitis Group.
Professor Kennedy is also involved in developing new treatments for viral liver diseases and leads clinical trials for these therapies at phases 1, 2, and 3.
He has created an app called HBVB and Me, which helps him maintain strong communication with his research and patients, improving healthcare services.
The London Clinic`s website lists Professor Kennedy’s consultation fee as £350, which is approximately 52,549 BDT in Bangladeshi currency. For follow-up appointments, his fee is £250, or around 37,535 BDT.
