SC upholds HC order canceling Samrat’s bail

The appellate division has ruled out the plea challenging a high court order that cancelled the bail of expelled Juba League leader Ismail Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A 3-member appellate division bench led by justice Md. Nuruzzaman passed the order on Wednesday.

Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud took part in the hearing on behalf of Samrat while advocate Md. Khurshid Alam appeared in favour of the ACC.

The leave-to –appeal hearing was held on 8 August against the high court order that canceled Samrat’s bail.

On 23 May, the chamber judge court sent the appeal to the appellate division for hearing.

A high court bench of justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and justice Kazi Md. Izarul Haque Akanda canceled Samrat’s bail on 18 May and also ordered him to surrender within seven days before the judicial court.

Judge Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman of Dhaka special judge court 6 granted Samrat bail on 11 May. Samrat walked out of prison cell in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University later.
