Funerals of four victims from Kushtia who died after a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River at Daulatdia ghat have been completed, as grief grips their families and local communities.
The deceased include Marzina Khatun, Ayesha Binte Gias, three-year-old Israfel and Rajib Biswas, all residents of different areas in Kushtia.
Family members and locals attended separate funeral prayers and burial rites held in their respective villages on Thursday.
Marzina Khatun was laid to rest in Kushtia Sadar, while Ayesha Binte Gias was buried in Khoksa following her janaza. The funeral of young Israfel was also held in Khoksa, and Rajib Biswas was cremated later in the day in Betbaria union.
The victims were among passengers of a Souhardya Transport bus that fell into the Padma River on Wednesday evening while attempting to board a ferry at Daulatdia in Goalanda upazila.
The bus, carrying around 45 to 50 passengers, had started its journey from Kumarkhali in Kushtia and picked up more passengers along the route before the accident.
The tragic incident has left the affected families and communities in deep mourning.
