The government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members at fuel depots across the country to control hoarding and ensure a steady supply amid rising global fuel prices linked to the Middle East crisis.

According to a BGB press release, the deployment began on March 25 following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs. A total of 19 depots in nine districts are now under monitoring.

The covered areas include depots in Dhaka, Kurigram, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Moulvibazar, Cumilla, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria and Sunamganj.

Officials said the operation is being managed under a central plan supervised by Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters. Temporary camps have been set up, especially in remote locations, to support the activities.

BGB members are closely watching depot operations to prevent illegal storage and sales of fuel. They are also working with depot authorities to quickly respond to any unusual situation or risk.

Authorities believe that the visible presence of BGB will help build public confidence and keep the fuel supply stable during this uncertain time.

At the same time, border security has been tightened to stop fuel smuggling. Patrols have been increased, check posts set up, and strict monitoring is being carried out at key border points and trade routes.

Officials said these steps are necessary to maintain stability in the fuel market and protect the country’s energy security.
