Rescue teams have recovered 14 bodies after a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River at Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari’s Goalanda upazila.
Authorities said two of the victims were identified as Rehena Akhter and Morjina Begum, while the identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.
The bodies were retrieved late at night.
At least three survivors have been reported, with two undergoing treatment at Daulatdia Upazila Health Complex and another receiving care at home.
The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the bus, carrying around 50 passengers, fell into the river while waiting on a pontoon for a ferry.
According to officials, a ferry named Hasna Hena struck the pontoon, causing the bus to lose balance and plunge into the water.
While some passengers managed to escape, many remained trapped inside the vehicle.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with efforts underway to lift the submerged bus using a rescue vessel.
Fire Service personnel and BIWTA teams are working at the scene as authorities continue to search for any remaining victims.
