The second and final Test match between Bangladesh and the West Indies is currently in progress, with Day 3 scheduled for Monday, December 2.
Once the Test series is wrapped up, the Bangladesh players will not have much rest before heading into the ODI series against the West Indies. The first of three ODIs will take place on December 8.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the upcoming series. With regular captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto out due to injury, Mehidy Hasan Miraz will step in as the new captain.
This will be Miraz’s first time leading Bangladesh in an ODI series.
Shanto, who is struggling with a calf injury, has already been ruled out of both the Test and ODI series.
Along with him, Towhid Hridoy has also joined the injury list. Hridoy hurt his foot while training in his hometown of Bogura, which means he will miss the Caribbean tour as well.
BCB’s chief doctor, Manzur Hossain Chowdhury, shared an update on Hridoy’s condition: "Hridoy has been feeling pain in his right ankle, and medical tests have confirmed the injury. He’s been advised to rest, and we will assess his condition again in two weeks to decide if he can return to play."
In a surprising move, left-handed batsman Afif Hossain Dhrubo has been called up to the ODI squad after being absent for a year.
His last ODI appearance for Bangladesh was in 2023. On the other hand, Zakir Hossain, who was part of the team in the recent ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been left out.
However, pace bowler Nahid Rana, who made an impressive ODI debut against Afghanistan, has kept his spot in the squad.
Here’s the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies:
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Litton Kumer Das (Wicketkeeper), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mahmudullah Riyad, Jaker Ali Anik, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Nahid Rana.
The ODI series will kick off on December 8, followed by matches on December 10 and 12. All three games will take place at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
