The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. The squad was revealed on Monday, June 23.
Litton Das and Naim Sheikh have returned to the squad. Litton was not part of the team in the recent Champions Trophy, while Naim is making a comeback after two years.
Compared to the 15-member squad from the last Champions Trophy, four players have been dropped.
Veteran cricketers Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad have retired, while Nasum Ahmed and Soumya Sarkar have been excluded from the current squad.
Tanvir Islam, Naim Sheikh, Hasan Mahmud, Litton Das, and Shamim Hossain have been included in the new team.
Following the Champions Trophy, the retirement of senior players Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah left two key spots open in the lineup.
Litton Das and current ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz are expected to step into those roles.
Miraz is likely to bat in Mahmudullah’s middle-order position, while Litton is set to return to his familiar spot, replacing Mushfiqur.
Soumya Sarkar has been dropped to accommodate the return of Naim Sheikh, who has been rewarded for his strong performances in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
Naim previously played against Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup and now returns to face the same opponent.
Additionally, pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, who have recently been recovering from injuries, are also making their return for the Sri Lanka series.
The second and final Test of the ongoing Test series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on June 25 in Colombo. The ODI series will commence following the conclusion of the Test series.
