Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, a Bangladeshi umpire, will be officiating in the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Series between Australia and India.
The fourth Test, starting tomorrow in Melbourne, will see Saikat working as the TV umpire.
Saikat, who is the only Bangladeshi umpire on the ICC Elite Panel, will take on a more prominent role in the fifth and final Test, set to begin in Sydney on January 3, where he will be an on-field umpire.
A former first-class cricketer, Saikat’s rise to prominence is the result of years of hard work and dedication.
In 2023, he became the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate in the ODI World Cup, and he also played a key role in the 2023 T20 World Cup.
In addition, Saikat has officiated in many significant international matches across Test, ODI, and T20I formats.
