The National Sports Council (NSC) has officially revoked the nomination of Faruque Ahmed as President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), following internal disputes and a vote of no confidence from eight board directors.
Tensions escalated after Faruque reportedly refused to step down despite a clear indication from the State Minister for Youth and Sports the previous night that the government no longer supported his leadership.
In response to his defiance, eight BCB directors submitted a letter of no confidence to the Ministry of Sports.
In a statement released at 11 PM, the NSC confirmed the cancellation of Faruque ’s nomination.
The decision was attributed to the no-confidence motion from board members and unresolved issues related to the BPL investigation report.
According to BCB’s constitution, the board president is elected from among the directors. With his nomination revoked, Faruque technically ceases to hold the position.
When contacted, Faruque acknowledged receiving the letter but declined to comment in detail. He stated he would consult legal advisors before deciding on his next steps.
Asked whether he still considers himself the board president, he replied, “I honestly don’t know. Everything must proceed according to due process. What I can say is—I haven’t resigned yet.”
