Is this the end of Hazard's Madrid dream?

Eden Hazard is injured again. The Belgian winger moved to Real Madrid from English club Chelsea in 2019. Since then, Hazard has been unable to perform, mostly because he’s been plagued by injury.

Every time he started to perform; he was soon sent out of squad with an injury. Hazard missed a total of 38 matches since he joined Los Blancos in 2019-20.  With a broken bone in his foot, he underwent surgery last March and was out for months. It suffices to say that even though Real Madrid won the league title, Hazard’s contribution was next to nothing.

The Hazard situation reminds of another injury prone winger, Gareth Bale. The Wales international is currently on loan in Tottenham following his poor performance and injuries.

It’s not easy for a player to adapt into a new team. Even more difficult coming from an injury. In Real Madrid, where you are expected to perform due to their lofty standards, Hazard has been a flop- to put it delicately.

Eden Hazard he has started only six games in La Liga this season, scoring twice. Reports say that after the latest injury last week, Hazard was very upset and Zidane gave him a day off so that he could clear his mind. The Belgian is expected to be out for around a month, meaning he would miss Madrid's first leg away at Atalanta in the Champions League on February 24. He is also likely to sit out the Madrid derby against La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid, scheduled for March 7.

Another Belgian player who came to Madrid from Chelsea is Thibo Courtois. The goalkeeper had a depressing first season but he bounced back and has performed up to the mark on the following season, playing a crucial role in Madrid’s league title. Many expected Hazard to make a similar comeback but at the moment that possibility looks unlikely.

Meanwhile, critics are wondering if this is the end of Hazard’s career at Real Madrid. Madrid is not known to be patient. Luca Jovic knows this fact too well. Will Hazard be able to make it for Real Madrid or will he be considered as one of the worst signing for Los Blancos in the last decade?
