Ishraq Hossain is the new nominee for the position of councilor at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as Brothers Union has officially put his name forward.

Currently, he serves as the convener of the well-known cricket club. On January 13, Sabbir Ahmed Aref, the general secretary of Brothers Union, submitted a formal letter to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan, confirming this nomination.

At present, Amin Khan, the cricket manager of Brothers Union, holds the role of councilor at the BCB. However, on January 5, Amin Khan resigned and sent a letter to the BCB regarding his decision.

After his resignation, Brothers Union made an official request to the BCB to appoint Ishraq Hossain as the new councilor.

According to the BCB’s constitution, the tenure of a councilor is four years, and the board typically doesn’t replace councilors during this period.

However, there are exceptions when a councilor passes away, moves permanently abroad, or resigns.

If any councilor resigns, the respective club or organization can propose a new councilor, and the BCB board must approve it in a meeting.

Once approved, the proposed nominee is appointed as the new councilor.

In the past, Brothers Union replaced Mizanur Rahman with Amin Khan using the same process. This time, they have requested Ishraq Hossain to replace Amin Khan.

Ishraq Hossain, an engineer by profession, is a senior member of the Dhaka South City BNP and also a member of the BNP‍‍`s international affairs committee. He was once a candidate for mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

His late father, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, was the mayor of Dhaka City Corporation and a prominent figure in both Brothers Union and the Bangladesh Football Federation.

Following his father’s legacy, Ishraq has now stepped up to lead Brothers Union. While his father was involved in football, Ishraq aims to make a mark in cricket.

There is also speculation that Ishraq may run for a director position in the upcoming BCB elections under the club category.
